The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken a major step toward ending passport backlogs with the launch of Central Production Centers in selected states across the federation.
This development, authorized by the Ministry of Interior, aims to ensure that passport booklets are produced and issued within the specified timelines of 3 weeks for renewals and 6 weeks for fresh applications, without the need for all booklets to be printed solely in Abuja.

The first phase of the rollout includes strategically selected states to cover Nigeria’s geopolitical zones:
- Lagos (multiple centers)
- Kano
- Ibadan (Oyo State)
- Enugu
- Port Harcourt (Rivers State)
- Maiduguri (Borno State)
